Who we are

LOKALDEKO ("LOKALDEKO," "we," "us") operates an online marketplace that connects shoppers with independent furniture and home décor retailers across Canada. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use lokaldeko.com (the "Site"), why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Each store you buy from or message on LOKALDEKO is an independent business ("Retailer"), not an employee or division of LOKALDEKO. Once your information is shared with a Retailer to fulfil an order or answer your question, that Retailer is responsible for how it handles your information from that point on.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly, information created as you use the Site, and a small amount of information collected automatically.

Account & profile

Name, email address, phone number, and a securely hashed password (we never store your password in plain text) if you create an account. If you sign in with Google instead, we receive your name, email address, and Google account identifier from Google — we never see your Google password.

Orders & addresses

Shipping and billing addresses (including the coordinates we look up from an address you enter, so we can calculate delivery distance and fees), items you order, order and payment status, and — for guest checkout — the email address you provide so we can send your receipt and let you look up your order later. We do not receive or store your full card number: card payments are handled directly by our payment processor, Stripe (see "Who we share information with," below).

Location

The city or region you set with the location picker, or that your browser reports if you allow location access, so we can show inventory from stores near you. This is stored in a cookie on your device — see our Cookie Policy for details.

Messages, favourites & reports

Questions you send a Retailer through "Ask the retailer," items you save to your favourites or saved searches, reviews you leave, and any listing you report to us.

Account security & device information

When you sign in, we record your IP address, browser/device information, and the time of the session, so we can detect suspicious activity and keep your account secure.

Anything you tell us directly when you contact support@lokaldeko.com or use the contact form.

How we use your information

• To operate the marketplace: process your orders, connect you with the right Retailer, show you inventory near you, and let a Retailer fulfil what you bought.
• To communicate with you: order confirmations, shipping/pickup updates, replies to messages you've sent, and account-related notices.
• To keep the Site secure: detect fraud, prevent abuse, and investigate reports of prohibited listings or conduct.
• To provide support when you contact us.
• To understand and improve the Site, using aggregated, anonymized usage analytics (see "Cookies & analytics," below).
• To comply with legal obligations, such as tax and accounting record-keeping.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only where it's needed to run the marketplace, or where you've asked us to:

• The Retailer(s) you order from or message — your name, contact details, shipping address, and order or message details, only as needed to fulfil your order or answer your question.
• Stripe, our payment processor, to process payments and, for Retailers, payouts. Stripe handles your card details directly under its own privacy policy.
• Our address-lookup provider, to convert an address you type into map coordinates so we can show delivery distance and fees.
• Our email delivery provider, to send you transactional emails (receipts, order updates, account notices).
• Google, if you choose to sign in with Google, and through Google Analytics, which we use in aggregate to understand how the Site is used (see our Cookie Policy).
• Law enforcement or other parties, where required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of LOKALDEKO, our users, or the public.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active. Order records are kept longer, since we and Retailers may need them for warranty, tax, or accounting purposes. If you delete your account, we anonymize your personal details rather than deleting order records outright where we're required to retain them — see "Your choices," below, for exactly what that means.

Your choices and rights

• Access & export. Signed-in shoppers can download a copy of their account data at any time from Account settings.
• Correction. You can update your name, email, phone, and saved addresses directly in Account settings.
• Deletion. You can delete your account from Account settings. This anonymizes your personal details; it's not available while you have an order in progress, since we need to see that through first.
• Marketing emails. We only send you marketing email if you've opted in, and every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link. Transactional emails about an order you placed aren't optional while that order is active.
• Cookies. See our Cookie Policy for how to control what's stored in your browser.

Canadian privacy law

LOKALDEKO is based in Canada and handles personal information in line with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and applicable provincial privacy law. If you have a question or concern about how we've handled your information that we haven't resolved to your satisfaction, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Children

LOKALDEKO is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the Site changes. If we make a material change, we'll update the date below and, where appropriate, let you know directly. Continuing to use the Site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
